About Us

Our History

Escondido United Reformed Church was founded on August 26, 1953 by sixteen founding families who desired to worship God according to the Reformed faith in the Escondido Valley. Today we are a congregation of approximately 160 families, continuing that same commitment to faithful Reformed worship, preaching, and community.

We are a member congregation of the United Reformed Churches of North America (URCNA), a federation of Reformed churches committed to the historic Protestant confessions.

What We Believe

We are united around the Bible as God's complete written revelation — the only infallible rule for faith and life. We are Reformed in doctrine and practice, meaning our theology is shaped by the Protestant Reformation's recovery of the gospel of God's free and sovereign grace.

Our doctrinal standards are the Three Forms of Unity:

  • The Belgic Confession (1561) — a summary of Reformed doctrine
  • The Heidelberg Catechism (1563) — a catechism organized around comfort, guilt, and grace
  • The Canons of Dort (1619) — a response to the Arminian controversy on God's sovereign grace

We also confess the three ecumenical creeds: the Apostles' Creed, the Nicene Creed, and the Athanasian Creed.

Our Mission

"Through our ministries and missions we seek to build each other up, give a cup of water in Christ's name, and spread the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ."

Worship

The center of our church life is the Lord's Day worship service. We believe that God has prescribed how he is to be worshiped in his Word, and we seek to order our services accordingly. Worship includes the reading and preaching of Scripture, prayer, the singing of Psalms and hymns, and the administration of the sacraments of Baptism and the Lord's Supper.
