Church Membership

Why Does Church Membership Matter?

Membership at EURC is a public profession of faith in Jesus Christ before the congregation. Those received as members take vows, promising by the grace of God to walk with Christ and with his church in these ways:

Believe and confess the doctrine of salvation.

Members wholeheartedly believe the doctrine of the Old and New Testaments and of the Christian faith, as taught in this church, to be the true and complete doctrine of salvation — and promise, by God's grace, to continue steadfastly in that profession. In this congregation that teaching is summarized in our historic Creeds and Confessions.

Rest in Christ alone for salvation.

Members openly accept God's covenant promise, signified and sealed in baptism. They confess that they despise and humble themselves before God because of their sins, and that they seek their life not in themselves, but only in Jesus Christ their Savior.

Love the Lord and walk in a godly life.

Members declare their love for the Lord and their heartfelt desire to serve him according to his Word — to forsake the world, to put to death the old nature, and to lead a godly life in the church, home, workplace, and every area of life.

Submit to the care and government of the church.

Members promise to submit to the government of the church, and if they should become wayward in doctrine or in life, to submit to its admonition and discipline. Pastors and elders keep watch over the souls of the flock entrusted to them (Hebrews 13:17).

Interested in Membership?

If you are considering membership at EURC, we would love to talk with you. The first step is simply to speak with one of our pastors. From there, prospective members take a New Members Class and, in God's timing, make public profession of faith (or are received by transfer) before the congregation. The class covers:

  • The gospel and the membership vows we take before the church
  • Our doctrinal standards — the Three Forms of Unity
  • Our church order and how this congregation is governed
  • The life and ministries of the congregation
